It was winters- A quiet Saturday evening... I was lazying around as usual and suddenly my phone buzzed – From the other side it sounded like a familiar voice – Hey, It’s me- We are all going for this swanky party ... Are you game? Oh My God. Whoa...Hell Yeah !! It was a very short notice.
I opened my almirah and looked at all the clothes around... and couldn’t find a single decent outfit to wear! I looked and searched and scratched myself under dsappointment and suddenly like an avatar... One dress that I bought ages ago rose up from the ashes of my old crumbled clothes.
But..
Yes..
this Butt has some significance here…as I tried to put on that dress.. guess what?
It wouldn’t fit!!
Arghhhh…
Instantly I came up with a new theory in the world of textiles –It’s not just washing, Clothes really shrink if not touched and ignored!! I would have had loved to stick to it… but my friends... I completely hate them...had a different theory…Are you kidding me? You have really gained weight. Bang. Shattering Noise blasted my ears and so was my world that came crumbling down like a house of cards.
And I swear ever since I have been TRYING TO LOSE my WEIGHT and IT KEEPS FINDING ME over and over again. Me and my extra weight are like best friends .. just like Moi and Shilpi… We know we hate each other but still we can’t live without each other.
Weight Loss – Who is not aware about it? You just name it and the entire world will come up with their own experiences, tips, terms and what not?… And being a complete pomp and show, how could I stay unaffected?
First thing was exercise - It was then I realized that why Exercise and Exorcism both sound alike - Obviously because both are designed to beat the hell out of you! Get up at 5 a.m. and go for a walk. For me early to bed and early to rise always made me sleep deprived and thus there was no question of being healthy and wise. Still I would drag myself with such an irritated face and slow pace that only my facial muscles could reduce a bit. The days when ears would refuse to hear the alarm clock, I used to have nightmares where people are forcing me to eat the centre part of a Do-nut.. And sometimes I am putting super glue instead of Lip Gloss and die of hunger. And on Twitter, millions of calories are following me with Unfollow button disabled. Trust me these were real nightmares.
Skipping Rope... Well, I really wanted to skip the bumps. Spot Jogging... Running on a single spot and not moving an inch. Its like becoming a laughing stalk…May be that would be the prime fitness program in any asylum.... Yoga... Come On... It’s so slow that as soon as they asked me to go on floor, I would end up snoring... Power Yoga... Oh Darn... It’s like playing with our roots... Never practice non- authentic stuff!! :D
And then comes the diet plan – Wake up at 8 a.m. and eat an apple... Not a minute here and not a minute there! Sipping Green tea till the point I would puke with all the bitterness I would have. And if at all I don’t see an inch loss on my weighing scale, I could happily blame it to that extra spoon of ghee that is my mother’s way of showing love .. Hugs and Kisses.. Not her style –In sane.
And in the end feeling depressed upset and cranky to not being able to fit into some old jeans of mine…. And then hogging voraciously on weekend as ofcourse cheating once a week is permittable. My cheating quotient was just a tad higher :P It took me a while to realize that I made my weight loss program a complete tamasha by losing my mind and not losing any weight... In fact it helped me gain few more Kgs.
So , what did I learn from this tamasha? There are no quick fixes. Losing weight is not a project with a completion date. It’s a lifestyle change. Crash diets, fad diets and ‘yoyo’ dieting do not help you lose weight. Doing over exercise without proper routine, lack of sleep and improper diet can lead to very harmful results in future. Here are few simple mantras which can do wonders - 1. Do not skip meals. Eat more but just eat right. Add some more fibre, salad, fruits and more vegetables in your normal meals. 2. Take time while eating food. Chew your food for a longer time leading to good digestion. Enjoy your meal to the fullest. 3. Sleep and lose weight. Add an extra hour in your sleep and you would have less cravings for food and overeating. 4. Choose exercise activities you think are fun, and can be accommodated in your routine quite easily. Like I have picked dancing now which I thoroughly enjoy and do not look out for ways to skip it. There are people who enjoy some sport. Take stairs instead of lifts. Playing with kids. 5. Always smile. Be positive. Have healthy relationships and stay stress free. It really matters a lot for your health.
And last but not the least let me teach you a simple exercise which is really effective at times - If someone tries to make you overeat – tempt you with your favourite savouries – Look straight into the eyes of that guy.. Turn your neck to 90 degrees left, come back, and then again turn your neck to 90 degrees to your right.. And repeat that till the person gets the message !It did have instant effects on me :D
Stay Happy, Always smile, Laugh often and you will be one hell of a Healthy person !!
Cheers !
